Fat Dog Imperial Oatmeal Stout

ABV: 9.0%

Purchased at Bottle Revolution, Raleigh, NC for $2.79 for a 12oz Bottle.

Stoudts Brewing Company “Fat Dog Imperial Oatmeal Stout” is a unique ale in that it has the complex and smooth richhness of an Oatmeal Stout with the assertive hoppiness of an Imperial Stout.

Fat Dog Imperial Oatmeal Stout poured with a one-finger, foamy, tan head and was a nice opaque chocolate brown in color.

The immediate smell was that of roasted malts. It also had aromas of hops and oatmeal.

The initial heavy taste consisted of a sweet tartness. I definitely picked up the oatmeal flavors during that first sip. The hoppiness is there but it is lurking in the background. Additional flavors I detected were caramel, coffee, roasted malts and most definately oatmeal.

Fat Dog Imperial Oatmeal Stout had a creamy and chewy mouthfeel. This Imperial Oatmeal Stout does not drink like a “typical” 9.0% abv beer….which makes it dangerous in my opinion. I could have easily had three or four of these with no problem….other than I probably would have been layed/laid out on the floor!

Smokin' Blues and Brews

Buy Again: Most definitely Yes!

Overall Rating: I give Stoudts “Fat Dog Imperial Oatmeal Stout” an 8 out of 10….pick up a bottle or two if you come across it my friends!
